Arch 22 Banjul

On July 22 1994 Banjul was the scene of a A coup détat. To commemorate this
event, Arch 22 was built as an entrance portal to the capital.
The gate is 35 metres tall and the center of an open square.
Tourists can take the lift or climb the stairs for a paneramic view of Banjul
from the balcony at the top.
There is also a small museum at the top.

Batik Market

Visit the Batic market for all your Tye-dye and Batik materials. See the batik
patterns being drawn and help with painting on the wax. Hundreds of ready made
table cloths and hangings to choose from.
This is a 15-30 minute stop - unless you want to look at all the patterns - and
can be arranged into the tour very easily.

Serrekunda

Visit the busy town of Serrekunda. See the real Gambian people and the hustle
and bustle of town life. Walk round the market for a real insight of African
shopping

Monkey Sanctuary
|

Visit the monkey sanctuary on the outskirts of Senegambia next to the beach.
There are four marked paths to walk round. It is usual to do paths one and two
only. It will take 30 minutes to 1 hour to walk round the reserve depending on
how long you stop to watch the monkeys.
It is best to visit the sanctuary early morning or late afternoon. It is far to
hot between 11:00 & 14:00 and the monkeys are not active during these times.
There are two types of monkeys to see, the Green Velvets & the Red Colobus. The
first ones will come very close but the second type are very scared of humans
and can only be seen in the trees.

Crocodile Pool

Stop off at the crocodile pool. Are you brave enough to stroke a croc?
You can get close enough to pet one of these creatures. A new small museum is
also here.

Paradise Beach

Stop at paradise beach for lunch or a snack. Let the drummers entertain you
while you relax. Spend time on the beach or have a swim in the sea. Changing
rooms are available.

Camel Rides

Visit the camel camp, ride along the beach and into the village
|
Village School
|
 |
Visit a typical village school whilst on your tour. You will be made to feel
welcome and the children will normally sing for you. All schools are short of
supplies, books, pens, pencils are welcomed. It is also possible to donate
money to the school during the visit.
Each guide will have a different school, this may be their own local village or
one they know needs help.

Wood Craft market

Visit this wood craft market at Sanyang. Twenty seperate stores all trying to
give you the best price. The cheapest wood carvings in Gambia. Watch the
craftsmen at work, carving, sanding and staining the wood.
A stop of 30 minutes to an hour, depends on the bartering and finding the piece
you want.

Lamin Lodge / Oyster Factory

Visit Lamin Lodge nestled in the mangroves by the riverside. Stop here for a
drink or bite to eat.
Visit the oyster factory outside and see how the shells are used for a variety
of thing.

James Island
|

This is where the slave's were kept while waiting for a boat to take them. The
island is slowly being washed away but still has the outline buildings and
canons on show

Juice Bar
